I am normally a ’sit on the fence’ kind of girl, and I am happy to keep my opinions to myself as long as I can carry on doing what I want with no hassle. But what kind of message are we sending out to our daughters and those of impressionable age. Take John Terry (if we really must!) for example. It is apparently the worst kept secret according to the tabloids that he often cheats on his wife, but this time, his latest conquest, Vanessa what’s-her-name is actually carving herself a career from it, thanks to good ol’ Max Clifford and has told of the secrecy and downright deception (paying her to keep quiet, blocking the papers from revealing his cheating ways, etc etc..and that’s the things we know about!). So what does his Wife Toni do? Take him back!

Yes, there probably was a lot of begging and tears (on his behalf!) to get her to forgive him again, but surely this is telling the younger generations that it’s ok for your husband to cheat on you, as long as you can live the life you are accustomed to. Maybe that’s where I am wrong, as maybe today’s view of love and marriage has moved on from when I was younger (and I am only 31!) as instead of respect, honesty and trust, maybe as long as you are financially comfortable then what does the other stuff matter?

As well as the view that the younger generation are getting though, the worst of it all is how do their kids see it? When she is older, will Tiger Woods daughter think it’s ok to take a cheating scumbag back, as that what is normal for them? Will his son ever be faithful as Daddy wasn’t to Mummy? Obviously, I, or any other reader of the papers don’t know the full facts, I just wish that you would hear about women standing up for themselves a bit more and not taking second best.

I have read in the Daily Mail today that Boots are to stop offering loyalty points on their Advantage Cards as there is an EU directive that says it’s against the law to ‘promote or induce’ bottle feeding of babies under six months. While it is true that Boots don’t offer points on Formula milk, what the paper fails to mention is that due to the directive, no supermarket or shop in the Country can offer points on formula for fear of risking a big fine.

I don’t necessarily think the point of this story should be how Boots have stopped giving points, but more how a Brussels directive has bullied Mothers into thinking that breast is best, and anything after that is failure, which is untrue. Obviously, and I am fully behind breastfeeding if you can, milk from the Mother is better for the baby has it helps the babies fend off infection and illness not to mention how good it is for the Mother, but not all Mothers have an actual choice to not breast feed due to some very important physical and psychological reasons.

What’s more, is do the big wigs at Brussels actually fully believe that Mothers make decisions on formula fed over breast fed based on whether they can get a few loyalty points? Surely, if a woman was that money conscious in the first place and was putting saving money before what is best for her baby then she would be choosing breast fed every time as its free!

Also, no shop has to give you points just for shopping with them as they are just a loyalty scheme to encourage you to come back. So, ultimately it comes down to the individual shop on how they reward you for shopping with them.
